Boeing projects Africa’s commercial airplane fleet will more than double by 2045, climbing from 755 aircraft in 2025 to 1,625 as passenger demand strengthens across the continent.
The forecast, unveiled in Nairobi, points to 1,165 new airplane deliveries over two decades, led by 870 single-aisle jets that account for about three-quarters of total demand.
The outlook forms part of Boeing’s 2026 Commercial Market Outlook and ties fleet growth to urbanisation, a rising middle class and better infrastructure.
Passenger traffic is expected to expand by nearly 6% a year through 2045, supporting more flying on intra-Africa and Africa–Middle East routes.
Boeing also expects Africa’s widebody fleet to more than double and its cargo fleet to rise from 60 aircraft to 150.
The forecast also points to a need for about 75,000 new aviation professionals across the continent over the period.
